Digital Desk: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planing to inaugurate the Pune Metro ahead of civic polls. The saffron party has started pushing for its new projects ahead of civic polls in the state.
Moreover, BJP plans to inaugurate the completed projects ahead of the polls to strengthen its five-year term. One of the major projects they are planing to inaugurate is the Pune Metro.
To continue with the fling, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol laid the foundation stone for a Rs 350-crore project to lay a sewage network and build two sewage treatment plants for the 11 villages merged in civic limits a few years ago.
“We are going for designed expansion of newly-included sites in PMC. Therefore, a master plan of sewage network has been designed for the 11 villages, and the construction will be completed in four years,” Mayor Murlidhar Mohol stated.
The present five-year term of the selected civic body in PMC will end on March 15. The State Election Commission (SEC) requires to hold civic polls before that, but polls are likely to be postponed due to the pandemic.
The SEC is now working on the delimitation practice after the state government chose to expand the geographical borders of PMC by including 23 villages and hold elections across three-member panels.
The BJP even intends to hold a lavish event to inaugurate the much-awaited Pune Metro project. The party is actually optimistic about requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the undertaking. Pune Metro is foreseen to commence operations by the end of January.
The inauguration of the Pune Metro will significantly boost the position of the saffron party in the upcoming civic polls. This undertaking is the most awaited by the citizens.
The current ruling body is also trying to set up its civic body for the next term. These projects inauguration and undertakings are simply a medium to amplify their role in the state.
