Digital Desk: Aroosa Parvaiz, a resident of Srinagar who topped the class 12 board exams in the science stream, was trolled online for not wearing a 'hijab.' In response to the trolls, Parvaiz stated that she follows Islamic beliefs and that she does not need to wear a hijab to be a good Muslim.
Aroosa Parvaiz, speaking to India Today, said, "I believe in Allah and adhere to Islamic teachings. To prove that I am a decent Muslim, I don't need to wear a hijab"
Aroosa Parvaiz expressed her dissatisfaction with the online trolling. "I'm not troubled by it," she said, "but my parents are quite concerned as a result of these comments on social media."
Aroosa Parvaiz, a student from the Ellahibagh neighbourhood of Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir, received 499 out of 500 (99.80%) in the science stream. Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, presented her with a certificate during a ceremony conducted in his office chamber. As a token of appreciation for her achievements, Parwaiz was presented with a certificate of distinction, a trophy, and a cash for Rs 10,000.
However, on Saturday morning, toxic trolling was initiated against Aroosa Parvaiz on social media. While on one side, some social media users were congratulating her, on the other side, some people were criticising her for not wearing hijab.
Some people compared her to the Karnataka schoolgirl who yelled "Allah-hu Akbar" and encouraged her to learn from her in order to become a "role model for Kashmiri females."
