    Covid-19 Threat: Tamil Nadu imposes complete lockdown every Sunday 
    Digital Desk: Considering the spike in Covid-19 cases, the Tamil Nadu government has imposed a complete lockdown in the state every Sunday. The government has decided to limit the spread of coronavirus amid a surge in daily infections caused by the new Omicron variant.

    The Tamil Nadu government has previously imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am on all days. However, after looking at the surge of the Covid-19 cases, the state government decided to declare every Sunday as lockdown.

    As per the latest report, Tamil Nadu has reported a sharp increase in daily Covid-19 cases on Saturday. The spike recorded approximately 24,000 new positive Covid-19 cases in the state within 24 hours.

    Moreover, the state witnessed as many as 23,989 new cases and 11 fatalities. The total number of cases documented has increased to 29,15,948.

    The death toll streamed to 36,967. On Friday, there were 23,459 cases and 26 fatalities. Chennai alone registered 8,963 fresh infections.

    What is permitted and restricted on Sunday in Tamil Nadu:

    1. The government has permitted the continuance of essential services such as ATM centers, hospitals, medical-related works, goods transportation, petrol pumps, etc.

    2. Metro and public transportation will remain close on Sunday.

    3. Hotels and eateries will work for parcel services from 7 am to 10 pm, along with food delivery facilities for the customers.

    4. People moving towards train station or airport should travel with their vehicle carrying travel ticket.

    5. Inter and Intra private and public transportation will be allowed following the COVID-19 safety guidelines.

    6. The employees are advised to carry the company IDs if they operate from the office. Only manufacturing and IT sectors are permitted to work, and they are asked if work from home is feasible.
