DCW takes cognizance of rape threats to Virat Kohli's daughter

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took suo-motu cognizance on reports of online rape threats to Indian Captain Virat Kohli's 9-month old daughter Vamika.

DCW has asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police to provide them with a copy of the FIR. They have also asked details of the accused identified and held, and the report of the detailed action taken by November 8.

The online trolls giving rape threats came after Virat's post in support of teammate Mohammed Shami. Kholi raised his voice against religious prejudices.

Kohli had lately supported Shami when he responded to Shami's online abuse over social media after Pakistan defeated India. However, this didn't go great with the trolls as they began to target Kohli's baby daughter and sent rape threats.

Kohli stated that attacking someone over their religion is 'pathetic' while extending his support for Shami. Shami faced harsh online abuse after the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan. As soon as India lost to Pakistan, some trolls posted derogatory remarks and hit Shami's religion.

But, Shami earned strong support from his captain, who called the trolls "spineless". Kholi said, "Mohammad Shami has won India several matches in the last few years. He has been our primary bowler with Jasprit Bumrah when it comes to making an impact in games."

"If people can overlook that…I honestly don’t even want to waste one minute of my life to give any attention to those people and neither does Shami and neither does anyone else in the team," the Indian skipper added.

Many star players and other personalities posted messages in support of Shami.
