Digital Desk: In the wake of today's serial blasts that occurred during a Jehovah's Witness prayer meeting at a convention center in Kalamassery, Kerala, security has been beefed up in the nation's capital and Mumbai.
In light of the explosions, the Delhi Police claimed that security has been increased in the city's populated districts. Similar to this, the Mumbai Police has issued a high alert and increased security given the festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent blasts in Kerala. The Jewish center in Mumbai, Chabad House, has already increased security due to the continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The Delhi Police said in a statement, "The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is in continuous touch with intelligence agencies and is taking any input seriously. Security arrangements are being made at crowded locations."
There were several explosions at the conference center that left one person dead and thirty-six injured shortly after today's prayer meeting began. The gathering, which took place approximately 10 kilometers from Kochi in Kalamassery, drew almost 2,000 people. The three-day prayer gathering that started on October 27 came to an end today.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the incident, according to Kerala Police, and a special investigation team (SIT) would be assembled to look into the matter. According to sources, the device was placed inside a tiffin box.
Following a string of explosions, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Home Minister Amit Shah had a phone conversation. Mr. Shah gave the heads of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), two major organizations that specialize in counterterrorism operations and investigations, orders to send specialized teams to the area to start an investigation.
