Mumbai: The Directorate of Enforcement(ED) arrested former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with a money-laundering case.
As per sources, ED arrested Deshmukh in connection with alleged ₹100-crore corruption and money laundering case.
ED arrested Deshmukh after 13 hours of questioning on Monday. The questioning session took place at the central agency office.
ED arrested Deshmukh, 71, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). They alleged the senior NCP leader was misleading throughout questioning.
The agency will ask for his custody after they present Deshmukh before a local court on Tuesday.
Meantime, NCP leader Anil Deshmukh will defend his Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand before the court, stated the lawyer of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader on Tuesday.
"We cooperated in the investigation linked to a case concerning ₹4.5 crores…We will defend his (Anil Deshmukh) remand," said Inderpal Singh, lawyer of Deshmukh.

The case against Deshmukh and others was addressed after the CBI charged him in a fraud case linked to at least ₹100 crore bribery waged by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
The central probe agency noted the statement of the NCP leader under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) linked with the criminal probe being carried.
The interrogation and documentation of statements sessions went for long. Officials said Deshmukh was a "key person" in this case. ED requires to cross-examine Dekhmukh on various matter. Including the revelations made by suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze throughout ED questioning.
Deshmukh released a video message before moving to the ED office. He stated that he was deposing before the agency following the Bombay HC order came last week.
"Media reported that I was not cooperatiing with the ED…I went to the CBI twice after I was summoned…my petition is still pending in the Supreme Court. But, it will take time and hence I myself have gone to the ED," Deshmukh stated.
Deshmukh also asked the whereabouts of Param Bir Singh. "He made the bribery allegations against me but where is he now."
