Digital Desk: Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has been remanded to eight days of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody following his arrest for alleged financial misconduct at the state-run facility. Ghosh, along with three others—Biplav Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan—was apprehended as part of a broader investigation into the facility's financial irregularities.
On Tuesday, a special CBI court in Kolkata granted custody of the accused for eight days, despite the CBI's request for ten. The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 10. A bail plea from one of the accused, Afsar Ali Khan, was rejected, while the other three did not seek bail.
Dr. Ghosh resigned from his position on August 12, shortly after a tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. This incident led to widespread protests focusing on the safety and security of medical staff. The hospital has since faced increased scrutiny, further complicating the ongoing investigation into its financial operations.
