Hindutva ideology is “Neither Left nor Right”, says senior RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale

New Delhi: During the time when there are multiple theories and understandings about the idea of Hindutva, the General Secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Dattatreya Hosabale has said that the Hindutva is neither left nor right in its ideology.

He said that the world had moved between right and left or was forced to move towards the left once, however, Hindutva and its ideology is placed at the centre between both the leftist and rightest ideas at the moment.

Hosabale, said this while speaking at a book release function of a book named “The Hindutva Paradigm: Internal Humanism and Quest for a Non-Western Worldview” authored by RSS leader Ram Madhav, held on Friday.

In his speech, Hosabale said that since there are ‘human experiences’, there is also space for both the leftist and rightest ideas in the Hindutva ideology. He also added that as an RSS cadre he was never told that Hinduism is all about the rightest ideas, as many of the ideas of the ideology are from the left as well.  Therefore, he believes that there is space for multiple ideas in this ideology.

During the speech about Hindutva he also mentioned Mahatma Gandhi and socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia.

He also cited a recent comment of the Chief Justice of India N V Ramana about the Indianisation of the legal system of the country. Hosabale said that the present system, including the legal system in India is still colonial in nature and requires change to suit the needs of the Indian people. He further added that, India will not achieve full freedom until the legal system in the country is also Indianised.

Critiquing about the book of Ram Madhav, he said that the book does not present the West in a negative way, however he also believes that it is time to explore the world from the India’s point of reference.
