Dhananjay, representing the All India Students' Association (AISA), clinched the president's post by securing 2,598 votes, surpassing his opponent Umesh C Ajmeera from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) who secured 1,676 votes.
Digital Desk; The Left party has emerged victorious in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union Election, winning all four seats. After a four-year break, JNU's students' union made a comeback with the ballot on March 22. Notably, after almost thirty years, the JNUSU chose its first Dalit president from organizations supported by the Left. Voter turnout was 73% in the JNUSU polls, the highest in the previous 12 years.

· Mohammad Sajid (Left) -- Joint Secretary
President Dhananjay wins by 922 votes
Dhananjay, representing the All India Students' Association (AISA), clinched the president's post by securing 2,598 votes, surpassing his opponent Umesh C Ajmeera from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) who secured 1,676 votes. Ajmeera. Born in Gaya, Bihar, Dhananjay's election is historic because it makes him the first Left-leaning Dalit president since Batti Lal Bairwa's 1996–1997 term.
"This victory is a referendum by the students of JNU that they reject the politics of hate and violence. The students have once again shown their trust in us. We will continue to fight for their rights and work on issues that concern students. The safety of women on campus, fund cuts, scholarship hike, infrastructural and water crisis are among the top priorities of the students union to begin with," Dhananjay told news agency PTI after the win.
Vice President Avijit Ghosh wins by 927 votes
In order to gain the position of vice president, Avijit Ghosh of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) defeated Deepika Sharma of the ABVP by 927 votes. Against 1,482 votes for Sharma, Ghosh got 2,409 votes.
Left-backed Gen Secretary Priyanshi Arya wins by 926 votes
With the Left's backing, Priyanshi Arya of the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association (BAPSA) defeated Arjun Anand of the ABVP by 926 votes to become the general secretary. Whereas Anand garnered 1961 votes, Arya garnered 2,887. Following the ABVP's challenge to Swati Singh's candidacy, which resulted in the Election Committee canceling Singh's nomination, the United Left embraced Arya.
Joint Secy Mohammad Sajid wins by 508 votes
The Left's Mohammad Sajid won the joint secretary's post by defeating ABVP's Govind Dangi by 508 votes. His was the lowest victory margin among all the four winners.
Left's dominance in JNUSU polls
The winning students were greeted with great enthusiasm by their supporters amid shouts of 'Lal Salaam' and 'Jai Bhim'. Students celebrated the victory of their selected candidates by waving red, white, and blue flags. The Left panel's overwhelming majority in the polls confirmed JNU's reputation as a bastion of Marxist thought. Though the ABVP presented a formidable opposition at first, in the end, the Left won all four central panel positions. AISA, Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), Students' Federation of India (SFI), and All India Students' Federation (AISF) make up the United Left panel.
