Digital Desk: In the latest development in the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, the victim’s family has accused the Kolkata Police of insensitivity and negligence. The allegations surfaced as the family of the deceased doctor protested at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night, following the tragic death of their daughter.

The aunt of the victim claimed that, while the family was in mourning with the deceased’s body inside their home, police officers offered them money. “When the body of the daughter was lying in front of the parents in the house, the police were offering money. Is this the humanity of the police?” she questioned, expressing outrage at what she described as a lack of compassion.

The aunt also criticized the police for their handling of the situation, stating that while approximately 300-400 officers had surrounded the family during the last rites, their presence was conspicuously absent once the rituals were completed. “Till the last rites were not performed, 300-400 policemen surrounded us, but after it was performed, not a single policeman was seen there. What would the family do? How would they go home? The police took no responsibility,” she said, highlighting the stark contrast in police activity before and after the last rites.

The family's grievances were voiced publicly during a night of widespread protests in Kolkata. Hundreds of residents participated by turning off the lights at their homes and taking to the streets in solidarity with the grieving family. The Governor of West Bengal, CV Ananda Bose, also joined the protest, turning off the lights of Raj Bhavan and lighting a candle in support.

The father of the deceased doctor echoed the family's frustration, stating, “We will have to go; what else can we do? Things are happening very slowly; we can't tolerate it. We have a lot of questions, and we will ask the police the same.” His comments reflect the growing anger and demand for accountability in the wake of the horrific crime.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, with many questioning the effectiveness and empathy of the authorities involved. The family's protest emphasizes the urgent need for a thorough and sensitive response to such grave matters.
