"This is negligence. Negligence is a felony. All of this takes a handful of phone calls; how much time would it take from political rallies? " Mamata Banerjee stated.
Digital Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the Centre on Wednesday for the murder of an Indian student in Ukraine shelling, calling it "government negligence."
"This is negligence. Negligence is a felony. All of this takes a handful of phone calls; how much time would it take from political rallies? " Mamata Banerjee stated.
According to Mamata Banerjee, "On Ukraine, I have backed Prime Minister Modi. But I'm curious whether PM was aware of such a thing three months ago. Why weren't these Indian students returned? Any administration is responsible for bringing them back."
Previously, the Trinamool Congress head had expressed her support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for the evacuation of Indian people from Ukraine in the aftermath of the Russian incursion.
"I don't want to criticise the government in matters of external affairs. We are one. But because they are busy in politics, things did not happen," she alleged.
She also attacked the ministers who have been dispatched to Ukraine's neighbouring countries to assist with evacuation, claiming that the civil aviation minister delivered a speech after arriving in Romania. Banerjee stated that the Prime Minister dispatches his ministers to deliver speeches and engage in politics.
"He (PM Modi) dispatches his MPs and ministers to engage in politics and deliver speeches. I don't want to do any of this. I'm willing to go to battle for people if someone instructs me to. They are more involved in politics" according to Banerjee.
