    NDA candidate Om Birla elected as Lok Sabha Speaker for second time
    Prime Minister Modi, in his congratulatory speech, expressed confidence in Om Birla's leadership to guide parliamentarians and fulfill the expectations of the House and the nation. 

    Digital Desk: Om Birla, Member of Parliament from Kota and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, was re-elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The motion for his election, proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supported by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was approved through voice votes.
     
    B Mahtab, serving as the Pro-tem Speaker, officially announced Om Birla's re-election after the Opposition, which had nominated Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh, decided not to contest the vote.
     
    "I declare Om Birla elected as the Speaker," announced Mahtab.

    Following the announcement, Prime Minister Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju approached Om Birla, who was seated in the front row of the government benches, and escorted him to the Speaker's chair. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition from the Congress, also participated in this gesture, offering congratulations and shaking hands with both the Prime Minister and Om Birla.
     
    Upon reaching the chair, Mahtab welcomed Om Birla, saying, "This is your chair, please take your place."
     
    Prime Minister Modi, in his congratulatory speech, expressed confidence in Om Birla's leadership to guide parliamentarians and fulfill the expectations of the House and the nation. Modi highlighted the achievements of the previous Lok Sabha under Birla's stewardship, noting a record productivity rate of 97%, the highest in 25 years.
     
    "It is a privilege that you have been elected to this position for the second time," Modi remarked, recognizing Birla's commitment to maintaining the dignity and decorum of the Lok Sabha, even during challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
