The plea filed against the National Testing Agency (NTA) said that the exam on May 5 was conducted amid malpractices, including multiple paper leaks.
Digital Desk: In the NEET-UG result anomalies case, the Supreme Court sent a notice to the National Testing Agency on Tuesday, seeking a response. "The sanctity has been affected, so we need answers," declared the bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, who were hearing the case. Along with listing the case for July 8 along with a similar plea, the judge also declared that the counseling would not be stopped.
The plea filed against the National Testing Agency (NTA) said that the exam on May 5 was conducted amid malpractices, including multiple paper leaks.
It claimed that the purported paper leak violated Article 14 of the Constitution, which ensures the right to equality, by giving certain candidates an unfair advantage over others who choose to take the test fairly.
Additionally, there have been claims of irregularities in the June 4 results. Six competitors from the same Haryana center were among the 67 overall candidates who shared the top rank. It has also been questioned why some candidates were given grace marks.
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are among the opposition parties that have brought attention to the purported anomalies. In response to allegations of corruption and paper leaks by Congress leaders Priyanka, Rahul, and KC Venugopal, the AAP has called for a SIT investigation into the matter overseen by the Supreme Court.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said in a Tweet on X, "Lakhs of children prepare hard for exams like NEET and spend the most precious moments of their lives preparing for it. The whole family puts their faith and strength in this effort. But year after year, paper leaks and irregularities related to results have been reported in these exams."
The student wing of the RSS, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), called for a CBI investigation into the NEET-UG allegations on Saturday.
A four-person committee was established by the NTA to examine the 1,563 candidates' results. Meghalaya, Bahadurgarh in Haryana, Dantewada, and Balodh in Chhattisgarh, Surat in Gujarat, and Chandigarh are the places of origin of these applicants. There are claims that candidates received grace marks for "loss of time" at these centers.
'A strong committee has been established to examine the outcomes of more than 1,563 applicants. Within a week, the four-member panel led by a former UPSC chairman will give its suggestions, and the results for these candidates may change,' according to NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh.
The NTA, however, has refuted the accusations and asserted that there were no anomalies, citing the high results as the result of grace marks and changes in the NCERT textbooks.
A total of 24 lakh candidates registered for the exam and 97% attempted it.
The NEET-UG exam is held for admissions for MBBS, BDS and AYUSH in government and private institutions of the country.
