Digital Desk: Late on Saturday night, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained two educators from Latur district in connection with suspected irregularities related to the NEET medical entrance exam. Sanjay Tukaram Jadhav and Jalil Umarkhan Pathan, both employed at a government school in Latur, were apprehended by the ATS's Nanded unit. They are currently under investigation by ATS officials.
Earlier on the same day, the Central government removed National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Singh from his position and transferred the investigation into NEET-UG irregularities to the CBI. The Ministry of Education also formed a seven-member panel led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan to evaluate the agency's operations and propose exam reforms.
"We advocate for transparent, tamper-proof, and error-free examinations. We have instituted a panel for exam reforms, taken stringent actions against officials, and transferred the case to the CBI," remarked Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. "Students' interests will be protected at all costs," he added, following a series of decisions amid litigation and protests across the country over alleged exam irregularities.
The NEET-UG exam has sparked student protests, prompted by allegations of a leaked question paper and the subsequent rescinding of grace marks initially awarded to more than 1,500 students. The grace marks were subsequently annulled, and the affected students were offered a re-test.
