Digital Desk : Appointments for the ‘precautionary dose’ of the Covid-19 vaccine begin from today, 8 January as per announcement made by the Centre. The Centre has also said that no new registrations required for those taking the shot. People can directly enter vaccination centres after the Union government releases the schedules for vaccination on Saturday.
The three priority groups who will receive the precautionary shots are healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60-plus population with co-morbidities. “Those who have taken two doses of Covid-19 vaccine can directly take an appointment or walk into any vaccination centre,” the Union health ministry said.

The precautionary shots will be administered from January 10 in all healthcare and vaccination centres.
Amid rising concerns of the third wave of Covid and the emergence of the Omicron variant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25th December announced the Centre’s decision to administer a ‘precautionary dose’ of the vaccine.
The Centre has already notified the states and Union territories that the precautionary third dose will be the same as its previous two shots.
The mega vaccination drives for the children category of the age-group 15-18 years already begun on January 3, 2022. All the beneficiaries have been administered indigenously made Covaxin shots after consultation with the health department and researchers.
