PM Modi celebrates Diwali with jawans in J&K's Nowshera

Srinagar: Prime minister Narendra Modi visited Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district today. PM Modi will celebrate Diwali with the Indian Army this year, sticking to the tradition of celebrating the festival with Army personnel.

This year, the Prime Minister is celebrating Diwali with soldiers posted near the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector.

"I am not here as your PM. But as a family member. I have brought blessings of crores of Indians," PM Modi stated while addressing soldiers in Nowshera.

"The moment I landed here, my heart was full of excitement. This place's present is an instance of your bravery. You have provided a befitting response to all the intrigues here in Nowshera," he added.

This time will be the second year PM Modi is celebrating Diwali with jawans in the district. Ahead of PM Modi's visit, Army Chief General MM Naravane reported in Jammu and visited front areas to evaluate safety.

The border districts of Poonch and Rajouri have seen an outbreak of violence, and 11 soldiers have been hit over the last three weeks.

The army has been employed in one of the longest anti-terrorism operations in the Poonch-Rajouri forests area in the last 24 days. Nine jawans have lost their lives in the operation. But, there is no victory against terrorists lurking in the area.

In 2019, PM Modi celebrated Diwali at an Army division in Rajouri. This time he is celebrating the festival with jawans in Nowshera, adjacent to the Line of Control.
