Prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the 16th East Asia Summit (EAS). During the summit, Modi stated that India remained dedicated to upholding honour for shared values of multilateralism. Also honors rules-based global system, sovereignty and provincial integrity of all countries.
He also reaffirmed India's focus on a free, open and comprehensive Indo-Pacific and assistance for ASEAN's centrality in the region. The summit took place on Wednesday in a virtual mode.
The Prime minister highlighted India's efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic through vaccines and medical equipment. Further, Modi stressed on the establishment of a healthier balance within economy and ecology and sustainable climate lifestyle.
"Participated in the 16th East Asia Summit hosted by Brunei through video conference. Re-affirmed India's focus on a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific and the principle of ASEAN Centrality in the region," Modi tweeted.

"India remains dedicated to upholding respect for shared values. So, it honors multilateralism, rules-based international order, international law and sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. I look ahead to participating in the 18th ASEAN-India Summit tomorrow," he added.
Apart from the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member states, East Asia Summit includes India, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia.
Today, PM Modi will take part in the 18th ASEAN-India Summit via video conferencing. PM Modi will additionally examine the situation of the ASEAN-India Strategic Partnership at the 18th ASEAN-India Summit.
Prime Minister will hold stock of processes made in important sectors including Covid-19, health, business and trade, connectivity, and education and culture.
According to the official release, the EAS is the premier leaders-led conference in the Indo-Pacific. Since its beginning in 2005, it has played a vital role in East Asia's strategic and geopolitical development.
