Parents Hoping for Miracle Cure for Ailing Son Repeatedly Dip Him in Ganga; Child Dies

The five-year-old child and the Delhi family arrived in Har Ki Pauri on Wednesday. A other family member was with the child's parents.

Digital Desk: A five-year-old lost his life due to superstition in Haridwar. In an attempt to find a "miracle cure," the child's parents repeatedly dipped him in the Ganges, who was terminally ill. The youngster was ultimately killed by the family. The incident took place in Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri.

The five-year-old child and the Delhi family arrived in Har Ki Pauri on Wednesday. A other family member was with the child's parents.

They took the child for a dip in the holy river, but the child died in the process.

A video shot in Haridwar shows woman sitting with the child's body while onlookers criticize her. The woman, seen laughing in a half-crazed manner, can be heard saying, "This child will stand up. That is my promise."

As soon as the police got the information, they rushed to the location and brought the youngster to the district hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. A post-mortem has been ordered for the child's death.

The parents had brought their blood cancer-stricken son to Haridwar to take a dip in the Ganges River. The infant's parents disclosed that despite their consultations with doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the doctors had given up on the child, according to Superintendent of Police (City) Swatantra Kumar Singh.

The child's family, believing he would be healed by taking a dip in the Ganges, brought him to Haridwar in naive faith. But as the locals there became uneasy about the family's actions, there was a disturbance.

The family was charged by the community of drowning the youngster.

The family's cab driver from Delhi to Haridwar said that the youngster was feeling ill from the start of the trip and that by the time they arrived in Haridwar, the child's health had gotten worse. According to the cab driver, the family discussed the child's declining condition and taking a bath in the Ganges.

Further inquiry is being conducted into the case, which has been reported to the police.
