Digital Desk: As many as three persons, including the principal and the driver who was allegedly drunk and driving rashly, have been arrested by the police after their school bus in Mahendragarh, Haryana, crashed into a tree on Thursday, killing six children and around 20 injured.
State Education Minister Seema Trikha, during her visit to the hospitals with the injured children, stated that the private school had received a show cause notice asking it to explain why it was open on Thursday even though it was an Eid holiday.
"I want to inform everyone in the state that schools shouldn't be opened today. Aside from that, we have obtained self-affidavits from the private schools. A show cause notice has been issued. Secondly, they must present an affidavit from the vehicle stating that it is operated by the regulations and standards of transportation. Third, schools will be held accountable if someone is discovered to be intoxicated while operating a vehicle," Trikha stated.
President Droupadi Murmu said the death of schoolchildren was heartbreaking. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was extremely painful.
The incident occurred at around eight-thirty in the morning when a bus carrying about forty children—from primary to secondary classes—was traveling to the G L Public School in Unhani village in Kanina.
According to authorities, Dharmender lost control of the bus after driving rashly, causing it to crash into a tree and overturned. "Around 20 people are injured and six children have died in the incident," Mahendragarh Superintendent of Police Arsh Verma told PTI over the phone.
According to the police, the driver was arrested at the accident site, and a medical examination confirmed that he had consumed alcohol. Along with Hoshiar Singh, another school administrator, the police have also arrested Deepti, the principal of the school.
After a First Information Report (FIR) was filed, the state government, according to Transport Minister Aseem Goel, launched an investigation into the occurrence. Additionally, he gave officials orders to examine every school bus's condition.
He claimed that the bus had recently been punished for operating without specific paperwork and that the school administration had failed in their duty by allowing it to continue operating.
Police said the school was open on a holiday in violation of the rules.
Additionally, the bus driver's drinking habits had been disclosed to the school authorities. According to officials, some parents informed the school even on Thursday that Dharmender was drunk.
They added that when it was discovered that the bus was missing certain paperwork, an assistant secretary in the district transportation/secretary's office in Mahendragarh was also suspended.
Officials stated that the Additional Transport Commissioner (Road Safety) has been instructed to carry out an exhaustive investigation into the accident's causes and identify those responsible.
To guarantee that the "Surakshit School Vahan Policy" for the children's safe transportation is properly executed, the education department has also decided to hold a meeting.
