Digital Desk: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to retain the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat and is expected to resign from the Wayanad seat in Kerala, party sources confirmed to India Today TV. He secured decisive victories in both constituencies in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

A final decision on the matter is anticipated before June 17.

The Congress Working Committee meeting on Saturday revealed a division among leaders regarding which seat Rahul Gandhi should retain. Kerala MPs like Kodikkunnil Suresh advocated for Wayanad, but there was stronger support for Raebareli, according to sources.

Aradhana Mishra, the Congress Legislative Party leader from Uttar Pradesh, emphasized that Raebareli is the traditional seat of the Gandhi family, a legacy passed down through generations. She argued that Rahul Gandhi retaining Raebareli is crucial for the political revival of Congress in Uttar Pradesh, which holds 80 Lok Sabha seats.

Congress has held Raebareli since 1952, with the exception of three terms. Sonia Gandhi represented the seat from 2004 to 2019 before handing it over to Rahul Gandhi for the 2024 contest. Rahul Gandhi defeated BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by 3,90,030 votes in Raebareli. In Wayanad, he defeated CPI’s Annie Raja with a margin of 3,64,422 votes.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Raebareli next week, accompanied by Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
