On the occasion of the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi expressed his emotions in Hindi, writing, "My strength, my grandmother."

"Hundreds of salutations to my grandmother, late Indira Gandhi ji, who was a symbol of unmatched courage and struggle and the pioneer of democratic socialism, on her martyrdom day," stated his cousin and BJP MP Varun Gandhi in remembrance of Indira Gandhi.
"In addition to your resolve to make difficult choices, you also have a very straightforward and kind compassion for parenthood. Grandma, you are the real 'Mother of the Nation,'" Varun Gandhi said.
Varun Gandhi is the younger son of Indira Gandhi's son Sanjay, whereas Rahul is the son of her elder son Rajiv.
