Digital Desk: The new variant of coronavirus; omicron's threat is increasing at a fast rate. India's omicron tally went well past the 600 mark after registering the highest single-day count of 135 cases on Monday. As per reports, India has recorded 653 cases of the omicron variant of coronavirus across 21 states and union territories. The Union health ministry said that India has reported 6,358 Covid-19 cases, 293 deaths, and 6,450 recoveries in 24 hours.
According to reports, this variant spreads faster than the other variants of the virus. Currently, the national capital accounts for the highest number of Omicron cases at 142, with Maharashtra a close second at 141 cases.
Given the increasing number of cases in India, state governments have started taking precautionary measures and restrictions. Ten state governments have announced to impose night curfew from Monday. The state governments of Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerela, Gujarat, Assam, Haryana and Maharashtra have imposed night curfew to curb the increasing risk of omicron.

On Saturday, the Assam government announced a night curfew from 11.30 pm to 6 am across the state amid a rise in Omicron infections in the rest of the country. However, Assam is yet to report any confirmed cases of the Omicron variant.
The revised directive from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) will come into effect from December 26 but won't be applicable on December 31, New Year's Eve.
According to the fresh order, all workplaces, business establishments, eateries, showrooms, grocery stores, dairy and milk booths will not be allowed to remain open after 10.30 pm.
