Sachin Tendulkar becomes latest victim of deepfake video: 'Disturbing to see...'
Senior party officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed concern about deepfake technology...

Digital Desk: The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar stated on Monday that his deepfake video advertising a mobile application was making the rounds on social media on the site X, which was once Twitter. The most recent celebrity to fall prey to deception via deepfake videos is Sachin Tendulkar. He called it disturbing to see such rampant misuse of technology.

“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes," Sachin Tendulkar said in a post on X.

In the video, Sachin Tendulkar can be seen promoting the app "Skyward Aviator Quest" and even claims that his daughter Sara Tendulkar is earning good money by playing on this application. A closer examination of the video indicates that it is a fake, even though it shows Sachin Tendulkar sitting calmly and endorsing the app.

    Not the first victim

With so many celebrity deepfake videos floating around on social media, Sachin Tendulkar is not the first celebrity to be affected by this issue. Bollywood stars like Rashmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt Priyanka Chopra, etc. raised their voice against deepfakes as their various fake videos went viral on social media platforms.

During elections, deepfake videos of prominent national leaders have surfaced, demonstrating that even political figures are not immune to this phenomenon.

Senior party officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed concern about deepfake technology and how it could upset law and order by displaying fake content. The potential ramifications of technology can be catastrophic, and as the field of artificial intelligence develops, governments are becoming increasingly vigilant about its improper application.

Technology advancements have made it simpler to produce deepfake movies, which is why we frequently encounter these kinds of images or videos on social media. According to the experts, it is currently possible to distinguish between real and deepfake, but the boundaries are quickly fuzzing.
