Digital Desk: In a significant development, the people of Uttar Pradesh have defied the predictions of exit polls by propelling the INDIA bloc to a formidable performance in the state during the Lok Sabha elections. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a press conference at the AICC headquarters, expressed his gratitude towards the voters of Uttar Pradesh for their remarkable display of support.
As per the latest data from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the INDIA bloc is leading on 44 out of 80 seats in the state, with the Samajwadi Party ahead on 38 seats and the Congress party leading on 6 seats. Rahul Gandhi, acknowledging the significance of this outcome, commended the people of Uttar Pradesh for their political understanding and their commitment to safeguarding the Constitution.
"We are going to have a meeting with our INDIA alliance partners tomorrow...we respect our alliance partners and we won't make statements to the press without asking them," Rahul Gandhi asserted, highlighting the importance of unity within the alliance.
The Congress leader emphasized that their fight was not merely against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but also against various institutions and the erosion of democratic norms. He underscored the importance of preserving the Constitution amidst challenges posed by the incumbent government.
"The fight was to save the Constitution. When they seized our bank account and put Chief Ministers in jail, broke parties, it was in my mind that the people of India would come together to fight for their Constitution," Rahul Gandhi remarked, alluding to the adversities faced during the election campaign.
Meanwhile, despite early leads indicating the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, crossing the majority mark, the unexpected surge of the INDIA bloc has reshaped the electoral landscape. This unexpected outcome has raised questions about the accuracy of exit polls, many of which had predicted a comfortable victory for the ruling party.
Congress leader Pawan Khera echoed Rahul Gandhi's sentiments, emphasizing the party's determination to achieve its target of 295 seats for the INDIA bloc. While maintaining confidence in their prospects, Khera hinted at behind-the-scenes discussions and expressed concerns regarding the delay in the Election Commission's website updates.
