Chief Minister Dhami also had a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, on Monday and reviewed the status of the continuing rescue efforts at the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel site in Uttarkashi.
The Chief Minister's Office stated that PM Modi has spoken with CM Dhami twice about this matter and has been informed that an array of state and federal agencies are involved in relief and rescue activities.
Chief Minister Dhami also had a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
According to SP Arpan Yaduvanshi, news outlet ANI, all 40 of the persons who are stuck within the tunnel should be freed by Tuesday night. Efforts to free the workmen confined within the trucks carrying 900 mm-diameter pipes have arrived at Silkyara.
The Uttarakhand government stated in a statement that large-diameter steel pipes are being inserted into the section of the Silkyara tunnel that is blocked by subsidence to provide a platform for equipment for horizontal drilling to free the trapped labourers.
These pipelines will create a way for stranded personnel to escape securely.
"Out of the 60 metres of debris, over 20 metres of debris has been cleared. We expect to evacuate the 40 people trapped inside by the evening on Tuesday," ANI quoted SP Yaduvanshi as saying on Monday.
He said that the workmen confined in the tunnel were receiving all necessities through pipes, including food, drink, and air. He said that the families of those ensnared have also been notified.
Chief Minister Dhami said on Monday that hume pipes from Haridwar and Dehradun were being delivered to the project site in huge diameters.
"The PM has promised to assist in every way. To save the forty trapped people, the NDRF, SDRF, and other organisations are putting forward effort. We want the families of those who are trapped to know that the state government and administration are doing all in their power to save them," the Chief Minister stated.
A section of the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway, which runs between Silkyara and Dandalgaon, collapsed on Sunday morning, trapping at least forty workers.
