New Delhi: In a moment of great victory for the farmers of the nation, the Union Cabinet has approved the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws on Wednesday. The cabinet has unanimously passed the proposal to withdraw the agricultural bill.
The government has listed ‘The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021’ in the legislative business to be taken up in Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament scheduled to start from November 29.
The bill approved by the cabinet will now pass in both the houses of the Parliament and after it, the three farm laws will be abolished.

The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 seeks to repeal the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation Act, 2020, the Farmer’s (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Service Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
According to parliamentary rules, the process of withdrawing any old law is the same as for making a new law. Just like a bill has to be passed by both the Houses of Parliament to make a new law, similarly, the old bill will also have to be passed by both the Houses of Parliament to withdraw or abolish the old law.
Notably, the old law can be abolished only by making new law.
In the Parliament session, either three separate bills for three laws or one bill for all three will be introduced in Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. After introducing the bill, it will be sent to the President of India for approval after being passed by one house and then by the other house without discussion. The three agricultural laws will be repealed after the approval of the President.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that it would repeal the three farm laws for the interest of the farmers who have been protesting at Singhu borders for more than a year. However, in response, the Kisan Unions said they would continue the agitation until the three farm laws were repealed in the Parliament.
Moreover, on November 21, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) wrote an open letter to PM Modi listing out their six demands. Now, it will be notable to see whether PM Modi-led central government will accept all the farmers’ demands or will crush them.
