Woman doctor assaulted by drunk man, his family at Mumbai's Sion hospital
During the examination, the patient and his relatives began verbally abusing and threatening the doctor. The situation quickly escalated when the patient, while being examined, pushed the doctor and accused her of inadequate care.

Digital Desk: A female doctor at Mumbai's Sion Hospital was allegedly assaulted by a patient and his relative, both of whom were reportedly intoxicated. The attackers fled the hospital after the incident, and the police are currently searching for them.

The assault occurred around 3:30 am while the doctor was on duty in the ward. According to hospital authorities, the patient arrived at the hospital early on Sunday morning with injuries on face and bleeding hands. He was referred to the ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) department for treatment.

During the examination, the patient and his relatives began verbally abusing and threatening the doctor. The situation quickly escalated when the patient, while being examined, pushed the doctor and accused her of inadequate care. The confrontation intensified into a physical altercation when the patient and his relatives attacked the doctor, who was carefully removing the cotton dressing from the patient's face. The doctor sustained minor bruises in the scuffle.

Dr. Akshay More, a junior resident doctor and General Secretary of Sion-MARD (Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors), explained, "The patient arrived as a casualty after midnight with 7-8 relatives and was already intoxicated. He had injury marks from a prior assault and was referred to the ENT department around 3:30 am. Our female on-call resident doctor followed routine procedures to examine the wounds. During this process, the patient started verbally abusing her, and his relatives joined in instead of calming him down. The situation rapidly turned violent."

As the altercation escalated, the patient and his relatives fled the hospital. The doctor reported the incident to the police around 7 am, and an FIR has been filed.

This incident occurs amidst nationwide protests by doctors and the medical community following the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata.
