    Women are safe in UP under Yogi's 'Good Governance': PM Modi

    Lucknow: Highlighting the various contributions made by the Central government in the context of women’s welfare, PM Modi praised the decision of raising women’s marriage age from 18 to 21, and considers it to be a significant step in improving the condition of women.
    During his 10th visit to Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi said that the government is giving priority to women’s empowerment and seeks to improve law and order to education and financial situation of the state.

    Speaking at an event at Prayagraj, PM Modi said, “Till five years ago there was mafia-raj, goonda-raj in Uttar Pradesh. Amid this, women faced the maximum. Women were not able to express or tell about their situation. If you went to the police station to report about a crime, a phone call in favour of the criminals would come. But Yogi has put the criminals in their place. Women are now assured safety in UP under Yogi-raj.”

    Praising Yogi Adityanath for his ‘good governance’ which has helped develop Uttar Pradesh in multi-folds, PM Modi defended the government’s decision to raise the marriage age of girls, even after opposition from a section of the rivals and social workers.
    Prime Minister also announced the transfer of Rs 1,000 crore to Self Help Groups under Central Schemes meant to benefit around 16 lakh women of the state.
    Taking a jibe on PM Modi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said that now even PM Modi has bent a knee and is now rolling out multiple schemes and laws for women.
    “Why didn’t he announce this is the last five years? Why now, before elections? Women have woken up with our ‘Ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon’ slogan,” added Ms Gandhi.
