Digital Desk: After Gujarat reported the XE variant case firstly on Saturday, hours after that, according to (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) BMC, the Covid-19 case reported in Mumbai a few days ago has been confirmed as the new XE variant.
On March 11, a 67-year-old man from Vadodara tested positive for Covid in a hotel. He returned to Mumbai because he was asymptomatic. The results were sent for genome sequencing, and it was discovered that the fully vaccinated man has the XE variant of Covid-19.
According to BMC officials, the man is now completely stable and has no symptoms.
According to officials, the XE mutant appears to be 10% more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron. So far, BA.2 has been identified as the most contagious COVID-19 variant.
The XE variant is a "recombinant" mutation of the BA.1 and BA.2 Omicron strains. According to preliminary research, the XE variant has a 9.8 per cent growth rate over the BA.2, also known as the stealth variant, due to its ability to avoid detection.
World Health Organization stated that the latest mutant might be more transmissible than previous ones.
