The salary increase has been implemented under the Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act of 1954 based on the Cost Inflation Index specified in the Income Tax Act of 1961.
Digital Desk: The Central Government on Monday has announced an increase of 24% in the salaries, daily allowances and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs) and former MPs effective from April 1, 2023.
The salary increase has been implemented under the Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act of 1954 based on the Cost Inflation Index specified in the Income Tax Act of 1961.
The revised monthly salary of MPs has been increased from Rs 1,00,000 to 1,24,000. The daily allowance has been raised from Rs 2,000 to 2,500, while the pension of former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 to 31,000.
The move came days after the Karnataka Government approved a salary hike of 100% for the Chief Minister, Ministers, and MLAs, which triggered a heated argument in the assembly.
The decision was granted through two amendment bills- the Karnataka Ministers' Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Karnataka Legislature Members' Salaries, Pensions, and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025.
