The Chief Justice Said That He Was Spellbound By The Voices
Of The Newsreaders Of AIR.
Digital Desk: Recently Justice D.Y. Chandrachud of the Supreme Court of India spoke to All India Radio (AIR). While having this discussion, he explained that he had a background in radio hosting. He recalled listening to Hindi, English, and Sanskrit news bulletins on AIR was part of his childhood, he was inspired by his parents to join the organization.
During the interview, the Chief Justice said that he was spellbound by the voices of the newsreaders of AIR. He was reminded of the patriotic feeling aroused by the words of Devaki Nandan Pandey, the famous newsreader of All India Radio, who said, ‘This is All India Radio; you will now hear the news read by Devaki Nandan Pandey.’ He also mentioned the voices of Pamela Singh and Lotika Ratnam and said that they are influential.
He also shared the story about his mother: “My mother was a classical musician.” I was about in third or fourth grade, and she used a visit studio for recording in Mumbai. In 1975, she left for Delhi and again gave an audition for AIR.” After that, his mother and he began producing and presenting shows in Hindi and English.
He revealed the reasons he felt very subjectively bonded with All India Radio “Sometimes I used to tag along with my mom to the studio. When we shifted to Delhi in 1975, I also decided to give an audition.. That’s the time I began learning of Hindi, and after some time, I was able to proceed with hosting programs both in Hindi and English. I still recall my first Hindi show and many other shows that I have hosted in the future. I also used to present Western music programs at that time”. The connection with AIR is special for the multitalented D. Y. Chandrachud.
