Indian Railways surprises passenger by giving him 'Iftari' while onboard on Shatabdi Express

While the IRCTC provides "Upwas Meals" for Hindu passengers during Navratri, no such service is provided during Ramzan,

Digital Desk: Many of those present with their family on this 'iftari' are very lucky; everyone is running on their own track field in this busy life.

In such an incident, Shahnawaz Akhtar, a passenger onboard the Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express, was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday when iftar was offered to him on the train as he was about to break his Ramzan fast.

As an official said, while the IRCTC provides "Upwas Meals" for Hindu passengers during Navratri, no such service is provided during Ramzan.

Shahnawaz pinned his gratitude to Indian Railways, wrote on Twitter, and posted a photograph of the meal served to him on the train.

His Twitter post tagging the Rail Ministry of India reads, "Thank you #IndianRailways for the #Iftar. As soon as I boarded Howrah #Shatabdi at Dhanbad, I got my snacks. I requested the pantry man to bring tea little late as I am fasting. He confirmed by asking, aap roza hai? I nodded in yes. Later someone else came with iftar," it was very overwhelming when people respect you with such kindness.

According to IRCTC officials, the onboard catering manager personally arranged Akhtar's meal.

"The passengers boarded the same coach as the staff prepared to break their fast. Because he informed us that he was fasting, the staff shared their iftar with him. This is the essence of humanity, "IRCTC Onboard Catering Supervisor Prakash Kumar Behera told PTI.

Netizens praised the crew while pointing out that Akhtar should thank the crew rather than the railways.

During the Navratri festival, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the railways' ticketing, catering, and tourism arm, introduced a special menu for passengers. The dishes on the special menu are prepared without onion or garlic and with rock salt, which is required for those observing the Navratri fast.

Darshana Jardosh also tweeted and thanked Akhtar, saying, "Your comments have touched the entire Indian Railways family, and we hope you had a good meal. This is a perfect example of how PM Modi's government operates under the motto of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas. Thank you very much."

Muslims all over the world are fasting during Ramzan. Iftar is the evening meal that marks the end of the fast for the day .
