Maldives to Initiate Roadshows in India to Revive Indian Tourist Interest

The roadshows seek to reverse this trend and reignite Indian interest in visiting the Maldives

Digital Desk: To regain the trust and interest of Indian tourists, the Maldives is strategizing a series of roadshows across major Indian cities. This initiative comes after a decline in Indian tourist arrivals, triggered by diplomatic tensions earlier this year.

Recognising the significance of the Indian market, the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) plans to collaborate closely with the Indian High Commission to bolster tourism efforts.

The roadshows will not only showcase the beauty of the Maldives but also involve influencer and media trips to further promote the destination. With India being a key demographic for Maldivian tourism, MATATO aims to strengthen partnerships with prominent travel associations and industry stakeholders in India.

Official data from the Maldives Ministry of Tourism indicates a notable decrease in Indian visitors following the diplomatic spat. Previously, Indian tourists constituted a significant portion of the Maldives' tourism, but recent events have led to their decline in numbers.

The roadshows seek to reverse this trend and reignite Indian interest in visiting the Maldives. The decision to organise these events underscores the Maldives' commitment to repairing relations and fostering a welcoming environment for Indian travellers.
