Oil India Limited's Headquarter at Duliajan under Cyber Attack

OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika said that the systems had been shut down since Monday, and efforts are being made to resolve the problem.

Digital Desk: Oil India Limited (OIL)'s registered headquarters at Duliajan in Assam's Dibrugarh district is allegedly under cyberattack, for which the company has shut down all computers and IT systems at the office, a company spokesman informed on Tuesday.

OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika said that the systems had been shut down since Monday, and efforts are being made to resolve the problem.

"We were forced to disconnect all of our computer systems from the LAN connection after learning that three to four computers had been infected with a virus on Monday," Hazarika said, adding that no computer at the headquarters now has internet access.

"The extent of the damage has yet to be determined by the IT department. OIL is working to resolve the problem. OIL has previously faced similar issues, but this time it appears to be a major IT-related crisis that will take time to resolve, "Hazarika explained.

Reportedly, OIL has lodged an FIR at the Duliajan Sadar Police Station. 

Notably, several hacking incidents into government IT systems have recently been reported.

The Indian Meteorological Department's official Twitter account was hacked last week, with a random tweet tagging hundreds of Twitter accounts. Mrutyunjay Mahapatra, MD Director-General, stated that the Twitter account "has been hacked, and we are attempting to restore it."

Notably, the official Twitter account of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO) was also hacked by unidentified miscreants on the night of Friday and Saturday last week. However, the UP CMO's Twitter account was restored later. The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an investigation into the matter with the help of cyber security experts.

Moreover, the official Twitter account of the University Grant Commission was also hacked in the early hours of Sunday; the hackers changed the account's display picture and background picture. The hacker had sent out a slew of tweets, tagging hundreds of people.
