AAP MP Raghav Chadha moves SC challenging his suspension from Rajya Sabha
In a motion to form a select committee to investigate the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Chadha allegedly included their names.

Digital Desk: Member of Parliament of Aam Admi Party (AAP) Raghav Chadha on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court with a plea that challenges his suspension from the Rajya Sabha.

In response to allegations made by four MPs, Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M Thambidurai, and Narhari Amin, who claimed he had included their names in a motion without their consent, action was taken against him. The vice president and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar received the complaint.

In a motion to form a select committee to investigate the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Chadha allegedly included their names. During the Monsoon session, both houses of Congress adopted the legislation, which was supported by the AAP, which currently controls Delhi.

Following the suspension, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal presented a resolution calling for action against the AAP MP for allegedly inserting the names of the four MPs without their agreement and violating the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

Chadha's suspension caused criticism from within the ranks of the opposition. "Those members who objected to their names (being included in the planned select committee) could have approached the chairman and expressed their disinterest in serving on the parliamentary panel. It is wrong to suspend Raghav Chadha in this way, Pramod Tiwari, deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha had told news agency PTI.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh was previously suspended from the Rajya Sabha on July 24 for "repeatedly violating" the Chair's instructions. The suspension hasn't been revoked yet.
