Digital Desk: In a major political development, two powerful members of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and a leader of the AASU are anticipated to join the Congress party soon.

AGP leaders Uttpal Dutta and Kamala Kanta Kalita are reportedly in talks to join the Indian National Congress (INC) party in Assam on October 11, according to party officials from the Congress.

While talks with former AASU president Prabin Boro and two-term AGP MLA Satyabrata Kalita are still ongoing, the top leadership of Congress has unofficially confirmed that the joining of both AGP leaders is almost confirmed.

It should be noted that Prabin Boro, who had previously been with the AGP, joined the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) in 2009 and assumed the position of general secretary. Before that, Boro worked for AGP as a joint secretary after leaving AASU in 2006.

Prabin Boro left the BPF party in June of last year.

During the AGP rule in Assam, Kamala Kanta Kalita served as the state's Minister of Health and Family Welfare twice and a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly three times, both from the Chaygaon constituency in the Kamrup district.

On the other hand, Utpal Dutta represented the Lakhimpur constituency as an MLA three times.

Additionally, Satyabrata Kalita represented the Kamalpur constituency as an MLA twice.
