Elections 2023: Congress releases candidates list for Chhattisgarh, MP, Telangana; Check details

The party announced 144 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh elections, 55 for the Telangana elections, and 30 for the Chhattisgarh elections.

Digital Desk: The Congress party released the first list of its candidates for the Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Chattisgarh elections on Sunday, just before the assembly elections in three states across the nation.

The party announced 144 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh elections, 55 for the Telangana elections, and 30 for the Chhattisgarh elections.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo are two well-known candidates for Congress, running in their respective assembly districts of Patan and Ambikapur, respectively.

The party fielded former chief minister and PCC chairman Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh from his Chhindwara assembly constituency. The son of the former chief minister Digvijaya Singh, Jaivardhan Singh, is contesting for the Raghigath seat.

Notably, the 22 sitting Congress MLAs who resigned and joined the BJP under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia caused the Kamal Nath administration to fall in March 2021. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party's national general secretary and his sister, have previously held several rallies in the state as part of the Congress' attempt to depose the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The party contested Anumala Revanth Reddy, the president of the Pradesh Congress, for the Kodangal assembly seat in Telangana, while Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, the leader of the CLP, fielded from Madhira-SC seat.

In the upcoming assembly election in Telangana, a triangular battle between the BJP, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and the Congress is expected.

In the previous assembly election, which was conducted in 2018, BRS was successful in winning 88 seats out of 119, and it had a commanding vote share of 47.4%. With 19 seats, Congress placed a far-off second. Voter participation was 28.7%.

Elections in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 17 while the Chhattisgarh assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17. The Telangana assembly elections are scheduled for November 30.

It is to be noted that the results will be declared on December 3.
