Digital Desk: Assam cabinet minister Jayantamallah Baruah has said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will leave its impact only in Miya Muslim-dominated areas.
Speaking about the impact of the Yatra, Baruah stated that the Congress and Rahul Gandhi came to Assam targeting the Miya voters. He added that other areas with significant indigenous populace will see no impact of the Yatra.
"The Miya regions will be impacted in some way. The Miyas were the reason they came here. Since there were just ten to fifteen indigenous people there, there is little doubt that their presence had no impact. Since there was no impact, they started a few disputes in an attempt to generate media attention and make a difference. They have engaged in various endeavors aimed at self-promotion. And Miya regions will be impacted. We do not want votes from Miya. Miyas will therefore be joining them. We send them our warmest regards." said the Assam minister.
Large crowds were seen during the Yatra rallies in Lower Assam, particularly in the districts of Barpeta and Dhubri, which gave rise to the Miya factor. On social media, the Assam Chief Minister had hinted that the main community was not present in this crowd.
It is noteworthy that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra came to an end amid controversy and violent occurrences during its turbulent leg in Assam. The Yatra entered West Bengal yesterday.
Commenting on the Miya factor, Jayantamallah Baruah added that although they do not see the Miya communities as enemies, they are attempting to assimilate the Assamese language, culture, and demographics.
"We do not think Miyas are our enemies. Those who show aggression towards Assam, those who want to destroy Assam's culture and traditions... we cannot like such people. They want to swallow Assam's language, culture, and traditions. They also want to swallow Assam's demography. We will then have to think in that particular direction," stated Baruah.
