Overambitious Himanta Biswa Sarma rose from minister to CM, now vying for PM's post, remarks APCC prez Bhupen Borah
Should Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh, consider retirement? enquires Congress leader Bhupen Borah...

Digital Desk: Bhupen Kumar Borah, the Chief of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has turned to a known micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter) to raise concerns about the current state of affairs inside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He offered thought-provoking questions about Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's ambitions and how they would affect the party's top leadership.

Borah questioned the recent debate inside Himanta's camp, notably the idea of a retirement age for important BJP members, in a series of scathing remarks.

Borah questioned Himanta's close aide and Cabinet Minister, Jayanta Malla Baruah, who recently urged that 72-year-old BJP stalwart Rajen Gohain retire, drawing a contrast to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's ages.

"Is the Himanta camp subtly signalling to Modi and Rajnath that they must make way for him?" Borah speculated, hinting that Himanta's ambitions may expand beyond the role of Assam Chief Minister.

Borah referred to Himanta Biswa Sarma's political trajectory, citing his previous desires to become Chief Minister while a Minister, as well as his current position as Chief Minister, implying a pattern of over-ambition. "Now that he's CM, given his nature, he's angling for the PM's chair," Borah said sarcastically. Borah suggested that the words concerning Rajen Gohain's retirement could be emblematic of bigger goals.

Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah emphasised the importance of performance inside the BJP on August 19, drawing parallels to cricket analogies.

In reference to the retirement ages of great cricketers, Baruah argued that Rajen Gohain's retirement is a natural evolution and a method for the party to make room for young talent.

"Party runs on Performance," Baruah said, drawing parallels between the BJP's results-oriented approach and the world of cricket. He emphasised the generational transition that has occurred in the cricket industry, with icons such as Kapil Dev giving way to new stars.
