Digital Desk: Trinamool Congress Assam President, Ripun Bora, announced on Tuesday that the party would be seeking at least four Lok Sabha seats in the state from the INDIA bloc. Bora outlined the targeted constituencies as Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, and Karimganj.
Dhubri, currently held by AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal, is on Trinamool's radar, along with Lakhimpur and Karimganj seats, secured by the BJP in the last general elections. The Kokrajhar seat, won by the BJP's ally UPPL, is also in Trinamool's sights.
Bora expressed confidence in the growing support for Trinamool Congress in the state, particularly in the mentioned constituencies, vowing a determined effort for the Karimganj Lok Sabha seat.
However, a senior Congress leader revealed reluctance to cede four seats to Trinamool Congress, citing numerous applications for the Karimganj Lok Sabha seat within their party.
Speculation surrounds the potential candidacy of Sushmita Dev, a prominent Trinamool Congress leader, for the Karimganj seat within the INDIA bloc. Bora emphasized Dev as their preferred candidate but acknowledged it was early to confirm.
Simultaneously, the Trinamool Congress is making inroads into the Dima Hasao autonomous council elections. Bora cited dissatisfaction with BJP's policies in the hill district, expressing hope for a favorable outcome in the polls.
"We have gained strong ground in Dima Hasao. We are hopeful to come up with a good result in the polls," Bora affirmed.
