Kharge accused PM Modi of defaming the previous government to mask the "shortcomings and failings" of the BJP-led central governments while speaking to the public in Germany during his Europe tour.
Digital Desk: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge slammed prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for "raising internal issues" of the country in front of other countries. Kharge accused PM Modi of defaming the previous government to mask the "shortcomings and failings" of the BJP-led central governments while speaking to the public in Germany during his Europe tour.
"It is not acceptable for the Prime Minister to criticise the previous government and raise his country's domestic concerns in front of another country. What will their condition be if we do the same thing to them? Defaming others to mask your
own failings are not in the best interests of any country's goodwill," he said.
While speaking to a group of 1,600 Indian diasporas on Monday, PM Modi took a shot at the Congress party. "Woh Kaun Sa panja tha jo 85 paise ghis leta tha (which claw was it that used to take away the 85 paise)," PM Modi reportedly said, referring to the Congress election symbol and 'panja.'
PM Modi was referring to remarks made by previous Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who said that just a small portion of the country's earnings made it into people's pockets. The BJP has used this statement to criticise Congress for corruption and to serve as intermediaries, as well as to highlight its accomplishment of ensuring that people benefit from the country's progress.
"Today, the way technology is being infused into administration in India shows New India's political will... No longer will any Prime Minister have to claim, "I sent Re 1 from Delhi, but barely 15 paise reaches to the people," Prime Minister Modi said on Monday.
Reportedly, PM Modi's statement was littered with subtle jabs at the Congress party. "Everything was a work in progress before 2014, everywhere you looked. I'm not criticising anyone, but if a road is built, it's dug up for electricity, then for wate," he said.
"Earlier, the country was one, but there were two constitutions. But why did it take them so long to come together?" he stated, criticising Congress on the matter of bringing the states together.
"Numerous changes that should have happened over time...we trailed behind for one reason or another," he added, criticising the prior Congress-led governments.
