The BJP responded by accusing Kejriwal of manipulating the assembly to spread political propaganda and engage in theatre in an effort to distract people from his government's "scam" on alcohol.
Digital Desk: After levelling allegations of the BJP of MLA poaching, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal won the trust vote in the legislature on Thursday. The leader of the Aam Admi Party received support from 58 MLAs. In the 70-member Delhi Assembly, the AAP has 62 MLAs and the BJP has eight.
While claiming that the opposition BJP's 'Operation Lotus' to topple his administration had failed because it was unable to persuade any of the AAP MLAs to cross over, Kejriwal had presented a resolution of confidence in the Delhi Assembly. On Monday, August 29, the motion was laid on the table in the House.
"They were unable to purchase even one AAP legislator in Delhi. We have 62 MLAs; two are abroad and one is incarcerated. The Speaker of the House is the fourth member," the Delhi Chief Minister declared after the trust motion passed.
Last week, Kejriwal said that the BJP had targeted 40 AAP MLAs and offered each of them Rs 20 crore to switch sides.
He had stated, "I want to introduce a Motion of Confidence in the assembly so that it may be demonstrated before the people of Delhi that the BJP's 'Operation Lotus Delhi' has changed to 'Operation Kichad'."
