Digital Desk: Breaking his silence on the 2002 Gujarat riots, Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Supreme Court's decision on Saturday, June 25, which dismissed a petition by Zakia Jafri questioning the clean chit given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case.
Shah stated that he had "closely seen" the prime minister going through the "pain" of the riot-related allegations.
Shah also conferred Modi as a " follower of God Shiva, holding the venom in his throat". He also asserted that PM Modi, who was Gujarat's chief minister at the time of the riots in 2002, withstood pain for the past 19 years without saying anything.
The Supreme Court affirmed the magistrate's decision to accept the final report presented by the SIT in the 2002 Gujarat riots case on June 24, claiming that Jafri's appeal was "devoid of merits."
Jafri is the widow of Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, who was killed in the Gulbarg Society massacre during the riots.
Following the verdict, Shah demanded an apology from everyone who had accused Modi of being "politically motivated."
Shah also elaborated that the Gujarat government did not waste time summoning the Indian Army to deal with the 2002 riots. According to former Punjab Director General of Police KPS Gill, the government's actions have been "prompt and neutral."
Shah stated, "The Gujarat government did not waste any time. We called the Army when the Gujarat Bandh was declared. The Army took some time to arrive. The Gujarat government did not even delay for a day, which the court praised."
The home minister also blamed the Congress for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, claiming that "nothing was done for three days" despite the deaths of so many Sikhs.
He also showed the silliness of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the "satyagraha" being held on his behalf in response to his questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the National Herald Case.
According to Shah, when then-CM Modi appeared before the SIT in connection with the 2002 riots, he did so without "drama or dharna,".
Shah also mentioned the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, in which he faced arrest, and claimed that no "dharna" was held at the time.
Shah continued by saying, "In a democracy, Prime Minister Modi exemplified how all political figures should uphold the Constitution. Modi ji was also questioned, but no one protested, and (BJP) workers from across the country did not come out in support of Modi ji. We worked with the authorities. I was also detained. There was no demonstration or protest."
Shah Slams activist and journalist Teesta Setalvad for 'Baseless' Riot Information, claiming that her NGO spread false information about the riots.
"I read the decision very carefully. Teesta Setalvad's name is clearly mentioned in the judgement. It is because the NGO she was running - I don't remember the name of the NGO - had given the police false information about the riots, "Shah stated.
He also claimed that Setalvad had "exploited" Jafri's emotions in connection with the case.
According to the Supreme Court, "Zakia Jafri worked on someone else's instructions. The NGO signed affidavits for several victims without their knowledge. Everyone is aware that Teesta Setalvad's NGO was involved in this. When the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government took office at the time, it aided the NGO." Shah said this while speaking with a national news agency.
