Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Berlin on Monday for the first part of his three-nation European tour, during which he will hold comprehensive bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and will also co-chair the India-Germany inter-governmental consultations.
"Landed in Berlin. Today, I will be holding talks with Chancellor @OlafScholz, interacting with business leaders and addressing a community programme. I am confident this visit will boost the friendship between India and Germany," PM Modi tweeted after he arrived in Berlin.
Reportedly, the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations will be co-chaired by Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Scholz (IGC).
PM Modi stated in his departure statement that his trip to Berlin would provide him with the chance to have in-depth bilateral talks with Chancellor Scholz, whom he met at the G20 last year in his previous capacity as Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister.
"We shall co-chair the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), a once-in-a-decade format that India conducts solely with Germany," he said.
"I regard this IGC as an early engagement with Germany's new government, within six months of its creation, that will help us identify our medium and long-term priorities," he added.
PM Modi said that India and Germany celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2021 and have been strategic allies since 2000.
"I look forward to exchanging ideas with Chancellor Scholz on strategic, regional, and global events that affect us both," PM Modi said.
Notably, the two leaders will also participate in a high-level panel discussion with leading CEOs from both nations.
"One of the pillars of our Strategic Partnership is India-long-standing Germany's commercial ties, and Chancellor Scholz and I will jointly address a Business Roundtable to energise our industry-to-industry cooperation, which will help strengthen both countries' post-Covid economic recovery," PM Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi will also meet with Indian ex-pats in Germany.
"Over one million people of Indian origin live in continental Europe, with Germany accounting for a sizable percentage of this population. The Indian Diaspora plays a vital role in our connections with Europe; thus, I'll take advantage of my trip to Europe to meet up with our brothers and sisters living there," PM Modi said.
PM Modi will fly from Berlin to Copenhagen on May 3 for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Frederiksen. The two leaders will discuss the progress of India's unique 'Green Strategic Partnership' with Denmark and other bilateral issues.
He will also attend the India-Denmark Business Roundtable and will interact with the Danish Indian community.
Besides bilateral meetings with Denmark, PM Modi will also attend the 2nd India-Nordic Summit, which will bring together the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, and Norway to assess collaboration since the first India-Nordic Summit in 2018.
PM Modi will also interact with French President Emmanuel Macron, who was re-elected as French president, on May 4 during a brief stopover in Paris.
A government source said that Prime Minister Modi would have 25 intense meetings during his three-day tour to as many nations, where he will spend over 65 hours.
