Digital Desk: The leader of the Punjab Youth Congress, Brinder Dhillon claimed on Sunday that Isherpreet Singh, the state's NSUI president, had been permitted to visit the Chandigarh University campus in Mohali, where students had staged a large-scale protest on Saturday night after allegedly leaked objectionable videos of female students went viral.
Singh, according to Dhillon, wanted to assess the campus's student population's well-being.
“Why is @NSUIPunjab president not allowed to visit the campus on the invitation of students? If he wants to check well being of the students and assure the students community of everything is ok and calm.Authorities should allow him and not use force on him,” Dhillion tweeted.
Singh told to HT that he had gotten a call from college girls. " The girls are kept prisoner on the campus and are not permitted to leave. I, therefore, wanted to enter, but the guards forbade it."
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann commissioned an investigation as the demonstrations grew more intense and political responses began to flood in. According to the police, the student who was accused of the incident shared her own video.
“It is sad to learn of the tragedy at Chandigarh University... Honor belongs to our daughters. A high-level investigation into the occurrence has been mandated. Severe punishment would be meted out to anyone found guilty,” Mann tweeted in Punjabi.
He urged people not to trust rumours while stating, "I am in touch with the administration.

According to Mohali senior superintendent of police Vivek Sheel Soni, it was discovered during a preliminary investigation that a lady student who had been detained had shared her own video with someone whose participation was also being investigated and who was said to be from Himachal Pradesh.
He said that the student woman had been arrested and that an FIR had been filed under the IT Act and IPC section 354-C (voyeurism).
Reports that films of several female students were made and posted on social media have been denied by the university administration.
Harjot Singh Bains, the minister of education for the province of Punjab, urged the university's students to maintain their composure and reassured them that the guilty would not escape punishment.
Manisha Gulati, the chairwoman of the Punjab State Women Commission, arrived at the institution to assess the situation.
