Digital Desk: While discharging stricter checks during this year end, to prevent any accident caused due to drunken driving, the Assam Police has collected a whopping Rs 4 crore from traffic violators in assam the month of December alone.
The traffic police collected fines of upto Rs 2.5 crore in the month of November, but managed to collect Rs 4 crore in December.
As many as 22,000 people have been penalized for not wearing helmets in the last 15-20 days.
In the past 7 days, 600 persons have been intercepted for drunken driving. All licenses have been suspended along with a fine of Rs 10,000 charged from each traffic violator.

A strict vigil has been initiated by the DTOs, traffic police and Assam police to ensure no accidents occur during New Year.
Every person, be it on two-wheeler or four wheeler, are being checked for drunken driving as breath synthesizers and traffic interceptor vehicles have been set up at peak places.
On the directions of the state government and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a strategic plan has been charted out to make this campaign a successful one, in order to prevent accidents in the city, police said.

The campaign can only be successful, if only citizens strictly adhere to the traffic rules, helping police in turn, reinforce the commitment of the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of making Assam an accident free state.
