By-elections for Majuli constituency have not been announced yet as former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was elected to Rajya Sabha yesterday unopposed and inducted into Modi’s new union cabinet but has yet not resigned from the Assam legislative assembly for the same seat.
“The Commission has reviewed the situations related to pandemic, flood, festivals, cold conditions in certain regions, feedback from concerned States/UT and taken into consideration all facts and circumstances and it has decided to hold bye-elections,” the ECI stated.
ECI has set October 8 as the last date for nomination and candidates are allowed to withdraw their nomination by October 13.
