The African Swine Fever is creating havoc among the livestock in Mizoram. The officials informed on Friday that it affected all 11 districts, killing 10,621 pigs since March. Mizoram Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Minister K Beichhua conducted a review meeting over the death of the pigs, deciding to provide financial aid for the pig farmers amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
The officials said to take strategies like culling and isolation of infected pigs, massive sanitization of the pig habitations and shelters, awareness among the pig farmers will be taken to prevent the death of the pigs. The first pig death suffering from contagious disease was reported on March 21 at Lungsen village in southern Mizoram’s Lunglei district, bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar.
