Silchar: An all-party 19 member representatives of the Assam Legislative Assembly headed by speaker Biswajit Daimary have decided to visit Delhi with an aim to settle the ongoing Assam-Mizoram border dispute.
Reportedly, the representatives have already visited Lailapur where the clash happened on July 26 which took the lives of 6 police personnel along with one civilian an injuring more than 65.
An official release said, “In a meeting it was decided that a team of all-party representatives will meet the Central Government to settle the ongoing border Assam-Mizoram border dispute at the earliest, to ensure that the constitutional boundaries were maintained.”
In connection to it Speaker Biswajit Daimary said, “Like the all parties were united in Mizoram to protect the borders of their state, all parties in Assam should come forward to safeguard its borders of their state. There is a dire need to formulate new policies and enact law to ensure inter-state border security so that not an inch of the state’s land goes in other hands.”
The other representatives include BJP MLAs Jayanta Malla Baruah, Bhuban Pegu, Rupak Sarmah and Krishna Kamal Tanti, Deputy Speaker Numal Momin, Congress members Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Misbahul Islam Laskar, Siddeque Ahmed, AGP’s Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Prodip Hazarika, UPPL’s Lawrence Islary, BPF’s Charam Boro, Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi, AIUDF’s Zakir Hussain Laskar, Suzamuddin Laskar and others.
