Digital Desk: The recently ended Assam Book Fair has transformed Chandmari into a Covid hotspot with its huge mass gathering amid the rising number of positive Covid-19 cases in Assam.
Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)Abhijit Sarma stated that three localities in Guwahati have turned into a Covid hotspot. The localities include- Rajgarh, Basistha, and Chandmari.
Assam Book Fair was held in Chandmari, Guwahati, from December 29, 2022, and finally came to an end on Sunday. However, now Chandmari has been declared a covid hotspot.
Most of the positive cases recorded in the last few days were discovered to be residents of these localities, according to the GMCH.
Both the state government and the people were ignorant that the third wave of coronavirus had already paved its way in Assam and all over the nation. So when the world faced the threat of the third wave and the new Omicron variant, Assam was having a huge gathering through the book fair.

The state government seems to neglect the safety of the people by allowing them to gather in a large mass. For instance, the crowd in the book fair was huge and turned into a Covid hotspot. Yet, there are no restrictions on people entering the fair. The government should have taken measures to postpone such a gathering amid the pandemic.
Moreover, it was also the state's people's responsibility to follow the pandemic guidelines. So it's not only the government of the state responsible for Chandmari turning into a hotspot but also the state's people.
Moreover, the government's negligence could also be seen in organizing the SPs conference in Duliajan. As per the latest sources, most of the police personnel who have participated in the conference have been tested positive for the virus. They are presently admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati, for treatment.
If such events continue in Assam, the positive number of cases could rise high. In such a scenario, it has become crucial for the government to take proper measures to issue strict guidelines for rallies, gatherings, and events.
